New Site Offers Charity Incentive to ‘Not Buy’ Holiday Gifts
An international aid organization has started a Web site encouraging people to donate money they would have spent on specific holiday gifts, reports The New York Times.
Visitors to What I Did Not Buy can identify particular items and their prices and find out what that amount could accomplish if donated. The site was started this month by BRAC USA, the American arm of an economic-development organization that has its headquarters in Bangladesh. According to the site, as of early afternoon Monday, nearly 500 people had given by not buying items, including books, boots, iPods, and flat-screen TVs.
